We can see red and blue squares on a background of blue and we can estimate the proportions of each color. If a dog is trained to smell something they will smell it. Even if MDMA was in a pill with other adulterants the dog would be able to smell the 'layers.' You really can't hide much from a drug sniffing dog.

Yes, if they are trained to do so. Dogs can smell just about anything, but they have to be trained to alert to each particular substance. Regardless, most of the time when you encounter a drug-sniffing dog, it doesn't matter whether you have drugs or not.

Theoretically speaking: Yes. Practically: No. Unless you are shipping hundreds of pounds of MDMA through high risk harbors, airports or border areas there will be no dog who can smell your few grams of mdma.
