Over-the-Counter Drugs

Anyone can mail such drugs with the USPS as long as they comply with federal and state laws such as the Poison Prevention Packaging Act of 1970 and the Consumer Protection Safety Commission Requirements.

When sending medicine or drugs through the mail, mailers and shippers must know the characteristics of the items they are sending and treat them correctly. Medicines are controlled substances and are subject to strict regulations. Prescription medications may only be mailed by Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registered distributors.

Answers (1) It is illegal to send narcotics in the mail. They aren't going to do anything to you for the ones that were sent, they obviously didn't know about it. The post office doesn't employ a drug sniffing dog in every office. They go after the ones who are using the postal service to send the illegal meds.

The bottom line, it’s illegal to mail prescription drugs but is legal if you have the proper licensing. Keep in mind, you are not allowed to mail your loved one medications they accidentally left behind when they visited you. Even if you are mailing a legal prescription medication to yourself, there is absolutely no exception to the law.

In recent years many post offices have been making automated shipping stations available after hours in the lobbies. This allows for drug traffickers to send packages without genuine return address information, all anonymously from a self-serve kiosk in the dead of the night. Shipping Non-Obscure Parcels

As mentioned, it’s illegal to mail prescription drugs. It doesn’t matter what the situation is. If it’s a drug that someone has left at your home, perhaps some drugs you want to send to a different address when you want to travel, or if you want to get back the drugs you left at someone’s house.

Sending a prescription is otherwise prohibited for citizens. If you are caught mailing prescription drugs through the mail, it will be an illegal act and will be prosecuted. Just as sharing a prescription with someone is prohibited, so is mailing it to someone else--especially if they do not have a prescription for it.

Essentially, you can actually send prescriptions through mail just as long as you follow due process in mailing the medication. Both postal services like USPS and private couriers such as FedEx stipulate that all applicable Federal, state and local laws should be strictly followed.
