• Chronic akathisia simply refers to akathisia that has been present for a long time, usually for at least several months; it is different from tardive akathisia

However, tardive akathisia which has a late onset, may go on long after the medication is discontinued, for months and sometimes years. When misdiagnosis occurs in antipsychotic-induced akathisia, more antipsychotic may be prescribed, potentially worsening the symptoms.

It's the most terrifying thing that ever happened to me. It's really severe.id never heard of it until it happened to me. I've read it can persist for months or even years after coming off the offending drugs so I'm trying not to be scared. I have to keep believing it will go away in time. I won't take any more psych drugs.
